Could use some help !
I'm using a Presonus Blue Tube to a Ebtech hum eliminator into the RCA sound inputs on a Macintosh A/V to record in Cubase and still hearing considerable HUM when monitoring guitar or Microphone. (Mic: Shure BG-4.1) The system a/c is run through a PowerVar professional power conditioner, I have taken a number of other steps to prevent 60hz hum.

A friend told me that I was never going to get a clean audio input signal unless I use an external mixer or work surface with a SPdif or USB or fire wire, etc. for interface and that going direct was not an option.

Am I completely clueless here? Or is there hope for me? Obviously, I'm on a budget. This is only a hobby project, I'm not trying to be the next Quincy Jones here.
I have worked with the Berhinger 6 chnl. mixer and it seemed noisy-hissy to me. What do you think is the least expensive means of getting clean audio with my system. The midi sound and internal digital audio editing functions are perfectly clear, the only glitch left is this hum thing.

I truly would appreciate any tips that you guys could lay on me. You have a great BBoard her, I'm glad I finally found it. Thanks.

dreamroad, I just returned your email. First I checked that Mac drivers were available, which they are. This will be a step in the right direction for you.
Give a little info about what other equipment you've got (monitors, mics, etc.), and what you'ld like to be able to do.

Welcome to the site.

Id say use a different preamp, something clean like a Delta DMP2....skip the hum eliminator.....isolate your recording source from the computer/monitor.......

an external mixer with usb/SPDIF/or firewire will not solve anything....tell your "friend" they need to frequent www.homerecording.com to pick up a few pointers......

If the Hum Eliminator didn't kill the hum, then it's NOT a ground loop issue...

Sounds like induced hum into the cables between the computer card out and the mixer... check that run of cable to see if it's running parallel to power cables or a transformer.

You guys are cool!

I have tried turning off the monitor and otherwise isolating my source from transformers, etc. The hum eliminator does help but only by about 50%.
Everything sounds groovy till I enable the track rec. in Cubase.

I'm thinking I should go with the ECHO sound card. And I'm not convinced that the Blue Tube is as noise free as they said it would be. Also , I got the feeling my "friend" was full of crap... that's why i came here!

RICK.. I did not get your email , if it's o.k., I'll send you my hotmail address - i use it the most.

The mic I'm using is a Shure Beta Green 4.1 condenser.
I have a Yamaha electric guitar that I customized by removing all switches, single coils etc. and foil shielding the innerds so it's not effected by the computer (works great), a Fishman saddle pickup on a solid top seagull acoustic, A Miditech Midi Control keyboard/Opcode interface.
My monitor is just a Technics EX140 receiver and a pair of Pioneer 2way spks.; & Yamaha RH-5ma headphones.

Thanks for all the tips I'll check back in tamale!
