HI ALL,
I knew it wouldnt be long before my second newbie post.
i have sorted out the problem of phantom power (lst post)
by buying a behringer ultravoice pre-amp, voice modulator vx2496. right , here we go.
Fostex FD8 Multitracker,
mxl 990 condenser mic,
boss sz700 rack effects,
ultravoice vx2496 rack preamp,
zoom hyperlead distortion pedal,
digitech rp5 floor effects unit.
How on earth do you sort out the correct way to connect everything. ???
Working from the fd 8 down, what would be the best ( correct ) way to do this ??
I have a multitude of jack cables, 1 x XLR mic lead.
I am getting confused by the sequence of returns , sends, mono in & outs, stero in and outs, aux send & returns, in , out , jeez,,,, HELP PLEASE.
CHEERS, KEV

we really need a sticky for mixers/signal routing.

if you don't know how a mixer works, read up on it a bit and alot of your questions should be cleared up. i know you don't have a mixer but signal flow is signal flow. here's some links to get you going:

about mixers

http://psbg.emusician.com/ar/emusic_mixed_signals/

about signal flow (check out the whole site while you're at it)

probably most of the people that hang out here can tell you how to hook your gear up but if you do a little reading first, you will more than likely understand how signal flow works and won't need an explanation of every in, out, aux, etc.

concerning audio signal, gear really only has inputs and outputs. they may be called something else (returns/sends) but they are just ins and outs.

HI,
Thanks for the links, appreciated them.
Very informative though they were, it will be some time before i can apply what i have read. Cheers anyway.
I have managed to get my mic working, by plugging it into the xlr mic input on the rear of the pre-amp. then running a jack cable from the output on the pre-amp, to the recording inputs on the fd8 recorder. It works on all 8 inputs on the fostex, so all is fine with that.
However, i am still having trouble getting my head around getting the boss unit to run in series with the fostex and pre-amp.
The fostex has aux 1 & 2 jack sockets,(socket 1 is the cable to the pre-amp). also has 2 x L & R aux return jack sockets (L is mono on both).
The behringer has 1 send, 1 return, and one output jack sockets, and 1 line socket, along with xlr type digital sockets.
The boss has 1 x L& R output jack sockets, and 1 x L& R input jack sockets, as well as 1 x bypass jack, 1 x exp pedal jack and 1 x control jack sockets.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, cos i am getting really frustrated now. Am very pleased that i have got the mic going, but dissapointed that i cant get the boss working. As i dont have the manual for the boss , i am having more probs than i thought.
Dont suppose anybody has a manual for the boss sx 700 effects processor ?????
M any, many thanks for any replys that i may get.
cheers, kev.
