Hi guys
i desperately need some help..

Today I finally updated my studio setup and became a Arrdvark Direct Pro 24/96 owner..(I had SBLive Platinum till today)

What is my problem? I think Aardvark users can help me most:))

There's a thing called "Patchbay" where out's and in's of the card are routed, including monitors and headphone's outs..

The second thing was that I've kept my Live card and want to run them simoultanouslly..How can I do that?

I've already installed Aardvark and Live is still running..And what happened? When I turned my monitors on there was a huge ammount of noise or hiss in the speakers..I still can't find out where it comes from...:(

Good news is that my Aardvark started to play but still those hiss is present..Is this a problem of some routing in Patchbay and what setup to make there?

Third problem, I used the headphone's out of the card for the singer in the cabin to monitor thru the headphones..What routing of the signal should I make to listen everything in monitors and in headphones?

Fourth, how can I link my Live to work together with Aardvark? I want to use my LIVE only for soundfonts..So my keyboard is connected with my LIVE via Midi in but there are no sounds from my LIVE..Help..What settings to make?

Fifth, When I reboot my computer it cracks painly thru my monitors ( Dynaudio).. What to make to avoid those shocks? Should I turn them off everytime I reboot? :(

P.S.Hardly waiting for your info cause I 'm desperate..

Thanx

I have a similar setup...

I have both card in my system, they work fine together. Now, to you questions...

I couldn't tell if you had a question about the patchbay. Do you?

I don't have a hiss problem, do the monitors hiss when nothing is plugged into them? That is to ask, are you sure the Aark is causing the hiss?

I did have a problem in the past where MIDI data was causing a clicking sound, this was a bad cable (the one from the Aark card to the breakout box). Aark sent a new cable and the problem went away.

Regarding you third problem, the headphones and the monitor out get the same sound. Nothing needs to be done.

You can plug the sound out of the live into the inputs of the Aark, but I do that within Cakewalk. No connection is necessary, I just route it within the software. What software are you using?

Fifth, yes, you should power your monitors up every time you boot. That pop can't be good for the speakers.

Don't worry, all of the problems are solvable. Both cards are working fine for me.

still question unanswered..

Thanx for your help..

It seems that I'm really confused with this new card..It all seems a little complex ( those routings...is it a permanent setup or should I re-rout it with every recording playing??!)

1. Question about the patchbay..How to setup it? I'm running my Dynaudio BM6 active monitors thru 1,2 outputs..My mic's are turned in 1,2 inputs..I'm using my headphone's in my vocal cabin for the singer to hear his "effected" mike..What settings to make to set this up?

2. About monitor hiss..I had no hiss when I've run my LIVE! It happened when I plugged my Aardvark and..The noise is here in my monitors everytime I turn on the comp..bluelonestar had this noise also in his setup..Don't know what to do? :(

3. About the MIDI problem..How can I do this? Want to run MIDI all from the Live! So, I want to use the soundfonts..played thru the Live! and record it and input in Aardvark..How can I make this possible?I wanted to keep my Live only for this.. What setup to make to disable all Live! audio and to run it's MIDI functions only?

4. I'm using Cubase VST ( software). How can I make my two cards to work together? Also use Soundforge..I saw that aardvark is compatible with them..

5.

here's my knee jerk on the aardvark.....sorry if this is obvious.....the aardvark has no synthesizer onboard so you can't drive it with midi to make sounds...the only way is to record your soundblaster by going into the analog inputs on the aardvark..(i haven't tried this, yet ) .the aardvark is designed for digital audio, not midi...though propellerheads reason works with it.....

all patch bay routings and effects setting can be saved so that you can call them up later.

if your tracking software cannot directly access the aardvark control panel, you may have to set bit depth, sample rate and buffer size manually.

i'm assuming you've got the latest drivers since they haven't updated in five months....

good luck!

2nd try at some answers...

In the patchbay, I have all of the outputs routed to the monitor output (3 on the right, all "patched" to the monitor on the left). I don't change the settings in practice although they are changable. That one setting seems to work fine for me.

I'm not sure what to sggest about the hiss. I don't have this problem. Does the hiss get softer or louder when you adjust the monitor volume in the controll panel?

On the soundblaster, the soundfonts DO output audio. whether the sound comes out of the live output or the aark depends on how you route it in the audio app.

I'm not sure if VST supports soundfonts. does it?

Again I'm not a vst user, so I can't offer much help on that front. But the aark does have an ASIO driver so you should get good performance from it.

doin' some research..

Before I call those Aardvark guys..

I wanted to do a little research..

What did I find out?

The hiss in the monitors is resident..The card is set up to +4db and the monitors also in +4db..I've tried to lower the volume of the speakers at -10db and the hum was bigger..
When I try to lower down my main fader, I lower down the music and the hiss remains..Let say, hiss like some amp turned loud..That's what I hear..

Maybe I should try to lower the volume with a external mixer.. I think that this hiss is beacuse of the low music volume amped loud thru the soundcard..But the bad thing is that I can't regulate thru the aardvark mixer..Maybe should try with external mixer..

2. How to connect Aardvark with my LIVE.. Is it correct to go thry Live's SPDIF-out thru Aardvark's SPDIF in? Will it do my job?

3. How can I change the buffering? ( Question for a Aardvark users) Do i have to turn down everything so I can change buffers and bit's so it can make effect?

That's all for now

Please write your thinkings

as far as i understand vst is one thing and soundfonts are another. vst instruments are software synthesizers that you can run on the aardvark without any onboard hardware synthesizer. soundfonts require hardware support on the soundcard, at least i think they do...i don't use them.

to changes buffers , etc, click on the 'advanced' tab on the aardvark control panel.

i was wrong to assume that you have the latest drivers. have you checked the aardvark website and compared driver versions?

if you are still getting hiss, you could try disabling the soundblaster to see if that changes anything. i think aardvark has a troubleshooting section on their website. i'd write them directly if you keep getting hiss....

what motherboard are you using?

good luck

info..

thanx for helping me..

first, you're right about the VST instruments and about soundfont..That's whay I am keeping the SB live 'cos I have plenty of them and want to use them..I'm just wondering how should I "connect" them both- is it via spdif in/out?

what buffers do you use for playing VST instruments?

I've disabled LIVE and the hiss is still present..:(
So the Aardvark is the problem..Must find a solution..

My motherboard is:
MSI K7 T TURBO
with VIA KT133A chipset..

Do you have some comments on this?

conficts...

Guys, I'm having some conflicts..

Think I have some conflicts in using Cubase..everything's so slow and my vst performance panel is telling me that HDD makes me some sort of problems..Even sometimes it "freezes" and makes a "blue screen"...

I think something is iregular in my setup..
Told you about my motherboard..the processor is AMD Duron 750, will go on Athlon 1GHz tommorow..

Have Matrox 30 Gb harddisk and 380 MGb RAM...

Can be the conflict is between LIVE and Aardvark? The Aardvark guys do tell that they can work together..Am I wrong in instalation? Is it something in my configuration?

Tell me what you think..
