i'm on the lookout for a new guitar to take care of mainly palm muting duties & distortion, not too heavy though... i previously had an ibanez with emgs, too heavy for what i'm looking for. also recently had an epiphone es 333 with gibson dirty fingers - was really good for the palm muting but not versatile at all. i thought H-S-S would be a good setup for varied tones & styles..

just now i'm looking at :

- fender highway one *

- fender mex standard *

- godin session *

- ESP LTD ST-203FR *

- fernandes - retrorocket pro *

any more recommendations are welcomed :)

I suggest maybe a Fender Deluxe Roadhouse Strat and changing out the bridge position Texas Special with Seymour Duncan Hot Rails. That's what I use for a while, kept the bite of the Texas Specials in the middle and neck positions, but got the nice humbucker bite out of the Hot Rails at the bridge.

You could do this with any Strat with Texas Specials, or you could pick up a Strat for cheap and go put in the Texas Specials and the Hot Rails all yourself. Up to you, just my two cents.

Yamaha Pacifica range? Great build quality.

Not bad for the price, at all.

What kind of stuff are you looking to play? "Palm muting duties and distortion" cover an awfully wide array of sound.

Do you still have the Epiphone? Wiring that up with a coil tap on the two pickups would make it a lot more versatile.

I really like Paul Gilberts tone. John Petruccis from the awake album too.One of the Fat Strat models would treat you well. You could also go cheap and get a Squier 51.

If you're into those two guys (I know you're not the OP, but whatever) a used Ibanez RG550 is the way to go.

If you can find a Fullerton ST4 on amazon or eBay you will be amazed with what it can do
