There are lots of very helpful research and implementation documents over at genelecs web site that are free for your reading and education ( even if you don't buy there monitors ..NICE!)

Poke around SOS for even more articles related to monitorinf and setting up a proper mixing environment

If you have to put the monitors close to the wall or corners , the boundary effect will " Pump up the bass" .... One real nice thing to have on a monitor is an adjustable shelf to cut some bass gain if you are experiencing to much re-enforcement from boundries...

I'd go with the 8' woof if the box has a low shelf cut on it ; better to have a driver that can provide the power easily and throttle it back if needed as opposed to a smaller guy sweating hard and more likely to distort.....

You learn how to mix with any decent speakers. That is to say, you'll, over time start to know if you need to cut the bass or boost it. I've used 5" speakers for years and I've learned how to compensate for the lack of bass...if the bass sounds right in the monitors it'll be too much anywhere else.
