HS2004XL: Where's My Cyclone DXi?

Hi there my fellow Walkers of Cake,

I was reading the chapter in my HS2004XL manual about Cyclone DXi. So I thought to myself: "Self, why not give it a go..."

I followed the instructions in the manual, I opened a new project and clicked on the Synth Rack icon. Great puzzlement in the BluesMeister household - I couldn't find Cyclone DXi. :(

"Oh you fool" I muttered to myself. You haven't installed it. So I inserted the HS2004XL disk and waited for the main menu to appear - but there was no mention of Cyclone DXi in the installation menu.

And what's more, Dyad DXi doesn't crack a mention in the HS2004XL manual, but I most certainly installed it from the HS2004XL CD. So what gives? Is this an oversight by CakeWalk? Is the HS2004XL manual just the Sonar 2 XL manual with a new front cover? Will there be a dedicated HS2004XL manual rather than the re-hashed Sonar 2 XL manual?

While you’re scratching your heads about that one, I’ve another problem, related to the Hey Moskus thread. I downloaded FreeFTP so that I could access the FTP site to enable me to D/L the BPOM project.

Since installing FreeFTP, whenever I switch on my PC it immediately dials-up my internet connection. I can see that bytes are being sent and received, but what’s going on here? I’ve run MSCONFIG but I can’t see any naughty progs lurking in the background. I don’t have ADSL yet, so I usually only get the dial-up dialogue box after clicking on Outlook Express or Internet Explorer.

I’m wondering if I should have clicked on the Disconnect After Download option in FreeFTP.

Do any of you chaps have any idea what’s happening and how to stop this errant behaviour?

BluesMeister, I guess you were right about the Cyclone DXi. If we have a look at their site, the comparison brings us clearer vision about available DXi on each release...

http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/HomeStudio/ComparisonSR.asp

Having said that, it's clear that the Cyclone was not a part of HS2004... :( But don't worry, I don't think I ever used it since I tried it first time... I don't say it's bad... just... you know... :p

About FTP program, well... I'm not realy sure, but there's always an option somewhere to turn the "immediate connect when Windows start up" thingee, isn't it ? I don't use FreeFTP nor in dial up connection, so looks like I can't help you much regarding this issue... sorry mate :)

;)

Thanks Jaymz,

I appreciate your comments. I strongly suspect that the CakeWalk people simply re-printed the front cover and forgot that there are differences between Sonar 2 XL & HS2004XL regarding the bundled software.

I think I should send an e-mail to CakeWalk pointing out the error.

You know, I'm with James. Cyclone sounded cool in theory, but in practice it just seems to be a chore to set up with limited uses. I think I tried to incorporate it into a couple projects, but ended up just taking it out.

I thought it would be a bit more like phatmatik pro or recycle.

Strange... since they mention it in the manual and everything.

But Cyclone sucks anyway! I'm a real musician! :D

So the general consensus of opinion is that I should remove the Cyclone chapter from my manual and line my cat's kitty litter tray with it?

Look at my avatar. You can see my cat's happy at the thought! :)

So, other than Jaymz's turn off the "immediate connect when Windows start up" thingee, no takers on the Dial Up issue then? I wasn't able to check that setting last night, I should have the opportunity this evening.

Thanks for all your input.

It's not the first time for these guys. The original Sonar manual was pretty much the Pro Audio 9 manual with the Sonar logo on the cover.

I recall trying to follow instructions in the Sonar manual on how to Apply Midi Effects, but the manual kept referencing a button that I could not find for the life of me. Come to find out that the button had existed in PA9 but had been removed in Sonar.

You sure could have fooled me. Where is your guitar lead for Biggest Part of Me????

I'm beginning to think moskus does not really do any recording or play any instruments. I think he just hangs out here trying to pick up little boys. :p :p :p :p

That's not very encouraging. I'm sure it would be better to have no manual at all rather than one that's wrong or misleading. Or at least an erratum included with the manual or something to the effect this manual is not the final release but will get you started type of thing.

I downloaded a tune by a Norwegian band named Magnesium. The tune is entitled Jazz House. It's very tasty and I play it with great regularity. The style of music veers very close to my own preferred genre of cool jazzy-flavoured blues.
