For some reason it says that I'm not allowed to post in the Microphone forum.. What'd I do!!

Anyway, I'm looking at mics to mic up my taylor. I'm confused between the Rode NT4 and Shure SM81. I've heard nothing but great stuff about the SM81, but the NT4 just looks cool.

I'm upgrading from a Shure PG81 which has served me well, but now I've got a nicer guitar, and would like to do it some justice.

Anything to help me make up my mind.. I don't want to just buy the NT4 because it looks cool.

The mic forum is closed for repairs and etc... but, should be re-opened sometime later today. The NT4 uses the same capsules as the NT5 and has a tad more color than the SM81... the SM81 is flatter and more accurate IMO.

Note that the NT-4 is a fixed angle X-Y stereo mic. The NT5's are more versatile, as separate mics which can be used individually or placed in a wide variety of stereo configurations. The SM81's are an industry standard small diaphragm instrument mic. If the money is there, just buy a pair of SM81's and never look back.-Richie

Thanks man. I'll do that. .. well.. one at a time. :)
