Hows this mix?

Hey Bryan nice guitar tones. The problem is that they are overpowering the drums and bass. The drums seem sort of thin and distant. The bass needs to come up also. I think maybe because you have so many busy parts going on that the mix is a bit cluttered. Choose which guitar part needs to be highlighted during each part of the tune and back off the volume of others a bit more. That should open up some space for the drums. Keep up the good work.

which guitar parts are overpowering? is it the lead guitar panned center? or the backing guitars panned left/right?

do you think the guitars are a bit too smooth sounding, thus taking away the warmth of the drums? hence making them sound thin?

I'd say it's the backing guitars that are a bit too loud. The snare drum just sounds sort of weak also.

Guitars are way too loud. All of the guitars. Knock a few dB of them. Try and match it to the level of the kick and bass, so they all hit and create a wall of sound, rather then the guitars doing most of the work.

I think your hats need some highs removed a bit with an EQ.

The parts are well written, I like it.

I would keep most things sounding the same EQ wise, just ride the faders a bit so get a better balance.

ok, i lowered all guitars , added a bit of 750-800k on the snare to pop it up a bit, added some 3.5-4k in the bass guitar just to brighten it just a tad bit.

how does it sound now? (same link above)

the funny thing is....it sounds alot more brighter/clearer than first mix.........

Try cutting the backing guitars just a hint more and bring up the bass guitar to blend better with drums.

added a bit of 750-800k on the snare to pop it up a bit,

Are you a Bat? :)

I would bring the drums up a bit. I think the lead guitar is ok, but the rhythem guitar needs to go down a bit.

Snare sounds really nice. I love that sound.

is this by any chance a guitarists mix? :-) The lead is buried in the backup guitars. Seem to be a good drum sound somewhere in there. But like others pointed out, take the guitars down, and maybe some low end out of them aswell and let the bass guitar handle the low end. Good playing....jebus!

Man, those guitars are still way too loud. I'm curious how loud they were BEFORE you turned them down.

The snare's not bad, but the kik and toms sound like you miced a stick hitting a practice pad. Thin wouldn't be accurate....anorexic would be closer. :)

Nice guitar playing in this. Just way too in-your-face for the rest of the mix, in my half-deaf opinion.

IMO I don't think that you can fix this tune by adjusting levels. The problem is that you are smothering the mix with too many fast lead guitar runs. There is no sense of space because everything is covered with a big blanket of riffs. You are a great player but you need to ease up a little and let the song breathe. I know that isn't what you wanted to hear but that's my honest opinion.

aside from the crazy guitar playing.....

is the mix whacked? did it improve from the previous mixes?

i still feel the backing guitars lack something.......

they lack "life" and seem to brittle.......I like how they are nice and crisp/present, but now it lacks body and "umpphhhh".

This is a good mix. I know what you mean about the backing guitars. They arnt perfect but they are good. I think it would be improved by increasing the volume of the bass guitar. It sounds as if its not playing many note in the lower end of the spectrum, or as if a big chunk of EQ has been removed in the low end.

To be honest the whole thing sounds really good though!

More drums, and within the drum mix more snare and more hats.

Great playing, dude.
