How Do You Help En Em Cee Who Can Write Nicely, But Always Flows "off" Beat - How Do U Help Him Or Her Get ?"on Beat" Without Re-inventing His Flow - As A Byproduct Of Your Flow?

Turn the snare up as load as it can go then tell them to groove with the beat.

this is gonna sound dumb, but: PRACTICE!!

get a metronome and practice to the clicks or something without a 'real' beat behind it. and do it over and over and over and over and.....................

over. ;)

that's my advice for now. you just got to be able to hear the beat pattern. maybe you could also have them sit down with the beat they want to flow to BEFORE they write, and count all the 4-counts. "1 and a 2 and a 3...." or if it's faster - "1 e and a 2 e and a 3 e and a 4 e and a..."

i dont know. try that.

bless.

Lol - R U Serious? Lol
- I Dont Know!! Im Stumped At This Point. The Only Thing I Have Been Able To Do Is Restructure His Verse. But Then He Got Mad At Me Claimin I Want Him To Sound Like "me" And Not "him" - Im Like . . . Sheit!! Im Not Tryin To Lose A Payin Customer Over This Shit. But Damm. Stop Askin Me What I Think!! I Think . . Its Off Fuckin Beat!!!

Any One Else Wit A Sugestion?

Lol

If he's payin and he gets mad with honest criticism then he sounds just fine the way he is just get the money for having to sit through it.

yeah, what willz said. if he's payin you to record him, then it's up to him to rap on beat. if you record a "crap" song, oh well... tell him to come back when he's ready and can flow on beat. dont be rude, but if that's what it comes to, then let him know.

and, no, i wasnt joking. when i was in middle school band, the band teacher told us to count the rhythm... then play. it works man. it helps to get your sylables right so your flow isnt too choppy or off beat. it's just a suggestion.

bless.

I second the PRACTICE element.

But it also falls on writing, does he write to the beat or does he write before he hears a beat and just puts 2 and 2 together (some people can get away with this). If he writes to the beat, what does he hear when he hears a beat? Can he single out a snare, kick, high hat, shakers etc...? Maybe he just doesn't hear the rhythm... I dunno...

Worst case scenerio, he comes back a few months from now saying "My Verses are off beat man!" and you don't wanna hurt his feelings. Blame it on Latency :D

you aint an emcee if you aint got rhythm. plain and simple.

until then, get that shit right.

Why don't you have him write and someone else rap?

Oh, sorry, that should read:

Why Don't You Have Him Write And Someone Else Rap?

if he is off beat, then dont rearrange his verse..make him start earlier so he hits the beat...if you get what im sayin...
and like if the beats is a 4/4 and he is rhymin every 3rd hit, make him start earlier to get the 4/4...i dunno for sure though lol

Yeah if you really wanted to just cut and paste his shit on beat then play it for him. It may be a little work on your part but afte he listens to his version and then your version he'll probably get the idea.

its just so very funny. i actually feel much better knowing that the proverbial hair that i have been pulling out is . . . well its gone now!! but i know i did all i could do!
