Hey, greetings!!!
I'm totally a newbie into home recording. Have been bass keyboard player, but somehow...analog..
Now that I can afford some new stuff at home, I had these two things - Alesis SR 18 drum machine and Tascam 2488 Neo.
Questions:
How do you sequence (record at all) drum machine Alesis SR 18 to Tascam 2488 Neo?
if not at all - Could I simply record the different parts of the drum kit on different channels by using a mike through an amp from the drum machine itself?

Thank you very much!!!

Humm..Let's see..I think the Alesis has 4 direct line outputs. You can assign outputs 1/2 for kick/snare ( you pan kick left and snare right in the Alesis but straight up going to your Tascam's channel inputs) and the outputs 3/4 as a stereo pair ( Left/Right)..All your "group" of drums( ie..toms, hi-hat, cymbals, etc.) will be in the 3/4 outputs which you control the volume/pan on the Alesis..

As far as sync'ng the Alesis and Tascam together, you'd probably have to use midi ( if the Tascam has this feature)..If you do get these to " sync" together via midi, you then have the choice of either just monitoring the drums off of the Alesis or actually printing ( recording) them to the Tascam. If left in the midi mode, you have the luxury of editing the drums. If you choose to print them, you lose the editing capability but can always re-record/edit as long as they are still sync'ed together via midi..Good luck..

The Alesis Sr18 won't clock to the Neo because it's a pain in the ass (the SR18, that is). You have to put something between the Neo and the SR18. That is, midi out of Neo to midi in of some other device that you know will clock to midi and also send it, then midi out from that device to the SR18 midi in (I have done this with an Alesis HR16 and an Akai Miniak synth). If I had known about this issue with the SR18 I wouldn't have bought the bloody thing. It won't clock to workstations either.

The little MRT3-B Zoom works great for me on my Tascam DP-02 and my Tascam 2488 NEO with no problems:D
