How to Split Vinyl Recording into individual tracks?

Using Sound Forge 6.0, I have figured out how to make a wav file of a vinyl record. I burned it to a CD. The problem is that when I play the CD, it is one long track. How can I split the different songs into separate tracks? Can this be done in Sound Forge 6.0 or do I need a different program? If it can be done, will I be able to jump to different tracks when playing in a CD player?

I use CD Architect to create CDs. With it, you have total flexibility on how to create tracks, even from a single WAV......
 
Hmmm... I have Vegas DVD Architech. Is CD Architech a completely different program? Or is is part of DVD Architech???

Bring up your big wav in Soundforge. You'll be able to see where one song ends and others begin. Place the cursor between two tunes, left click and hold it down and "wipe" accross the tune, highlighting it. Right click in the middle of the highlighted section and select "cut", the go to "edit" and select "Paste to new". Then name the track and save it. Do this to all the tunes till you have it all cut up into seperate tracks.
 
I'll give that a try. What I have tried is to search for end of each track (time consuming) and then put in a 1 second of "silence". I found another software called WaveChop that will then split the entire wav file into tracks, but this is time consuming and I am trying to do the same thing within Sound Forge.
I am new to this, so could you explain what the CD player is looking for so that it will be able to jump from track to track? Apparently it is not 1 second of "silence". Or if I put more seconds of "silence" would that work? I don't think I need each song to be a different and separate wav file. I just want to be able to jump from track to track when playing it in a CD player. Am I going down the wrong 'track' here?

Mike... Ok...say I convert the entire recording into individual wav tracks. When I burn them all to a CD, will the CD player be able to distinguish the different tracks? Or, during the burning process, is there something else I have to do for the CD player to be able to find the different tracks??? Thanks for your help... Gary
 
If you save each individual song seperately and then drop these into your burning software (burning "disc at once") all CD players will recognise them as discrete tracks.
 
I have SF6.0, but I've never burned CD's directly from it. I always use CD Architect 5. It's DVD Architect's "little brother." It's very flexible, as Blue Bear mentioned, and is a stand alone program. Like I said, though, I haven't tried burning from SF, but I suspect that if you do you will not have a Red Book CD. I can try it when I get home from work and let you know.

Mike... Just one more discovery. I just tried out WAVChop to split the wav into tracks. It really does the job soooooo much faster. It is only $5. It detects areas of silence,which can be adjusted. If it splits in the wrong place, you can easily join that segment to the track it belongs to. Well worth the time it saves. Just a suggestion.

I use Nero V6 to burn the tracks. Does a good job. I also use Roxio.
It was good to find out how I can split tracks in SoundForge, but give WAVChop a try. Thanks... Gary
PS Now I have to learn how to take out the record noise from the older LPs.
