How to setup soundcard and system?

Does anyone have any recommended tweaks I can perform to improve my environment?

I'm using...Soundblaster Live Value, Windows 98 first edition, and Digital Sound Planet "Quartz Audio" software.

For example... I have both mic and line input jacks on the soundcard. But I have to use the Soundblaster mixer to choose which input source reaches my multi-track software. Shouldn't I be able to use both input jacks at once?

Is there some way disable the all soundblaster software so that my audio is processed by the card, but isn't "adjusted" in any way before reaching my recording software.

This will seem like I'm being a jerk but it's like your asking how do you supe up a Yugo. There isn't really any difference in the way your sound is being routed internally. The windows mixer just tells your card what to do.

If you really want better performance than step up your soundcard and software. Look around the newbie and computer forum and there is a lot of good advice on gear and software.
