I'm new to recording and I need some help :) I have a Yamaha Clanivova, Cubase SX, PC with Audiophile 2496 soundcard. When I record in MIDI into Cubase, the sound that plays back is a 'piano' sound - not the one I selected to record with ('orchestra', 'guitar', etc.) Does it have to do with the soundcard, because I've heard that it doesn't 'read' MIDI??? Because when it plays back it's not on my speakers, but on the Clavinova speakers.

Also, what other ways I can record with Clavinova? There's in AUX IN and OUT - could I buy an amp and connect it to computer, and record audio into Cubase? Which way would be easier and faster to record? MIDI, Audio??
Do I need to buy additional software, or equipment?

First, here are links to three good articles on midi basics --- part one, part two and part three.

Your MAudio card does have a midi in and a midi out, and that's the way you should be recording into the computer.

If there is a 'Local on/off' setting on your Clavinova, set it to 'off'. This will break the connection between the keyboard and the sounds inside.

Your manual has the midi program change numbers necessary to call up the sounds inside the Clavinova, and you can make those part of the Cubase song so it will play back correctly when you reload it. That is the problem you are having with hearing a piano when you wanted orchestra, guitar, etc --- the midi program change numbers determine which sound will be played.
