how to playback in stereo - recording one channel only

Ok, so i just bought a TASCAM US-122L audio/midi interface and am still trying to figure it out. I want to record my guitar but can only record it in either the left or right channel, depending on what line in (left or right) i plug my patch into. My problem is that the recorded guitar track only plays back from one speaker (left or right, depending on what channel i plugged my patch into) but I want it to play back through both. I eventually want to be able to pahse tracks from speaker to speaker.

Is it possible to record the guitar in only one channel, but have the track play back in stereo? I am using Cubase LE4 to edit.

You should be able to go into whatever software you record your tracks on and select mono. That will make your vocal or whatever your recording play from the left and right channel.

Stereo is the difference between left and right. A single source isn't going to be stereo. You can pan any element you want wherever you want it when you're mixing - But you're mixing a collection of mono sources. Even a "stereo" source is nothing but two (NON-IDENTICAL) mono sources panned away from each other.

To make a mono file play back in both speakers just go to mixer view and adjust the panning with the left/right slider on the channel strip - I don't use Cubase LE but the panning control is probably at the top or bottom of the channel strip. Not hard to find.
