I walk the line
I just want to be able to 'play', in real time, not in record mode, a midi instrument in Reason 1.0 using my midi controller keyboard. Does anyone know how to do this? Is it even possible? Also, I can't even get Reason to acknowledge the controller. Is there a spot I have to go to in Reason to make sure something's checked or selected or whatever? I've used this controller before on another pc with Cakewalk Express and it worked just fine. Oh, and it's going into an SB Audigy Live Drive (don't worry, I'm just going to use it for midi, assuming I can get it to work).

I never know where to post things. Is this 'computer', 'keyboard' , or 'newbie'?

If anyone is willing to correspond privately, so I don't waste anymore bandwidth here, that's cool too.

Thanks.

I've never used reason 1.0, but I have used 2.0 and I'm currently using 2.5. To get reason to acknowlege your keyboard, in the edit menu, slect preferecnes. Flip to the "MIDI" page and in the pull down "Port" menu, your keyboard should be shown and all you have to do is select it (that is if the drivers are installed correctly in windows). Next, Flip to the "Advanced MIDI" page and in the "Bus A" pull down menu, select your keyboard once again. You should be good then. Then make sure down by your sequencer track, the little 5pin din midi cable is next to the device you want to control. If its not, just double click to the left of the track or device name. Like I said though, if you can't find your controller in the midi and andvanced midi pull down menues windows is not recogognising your keyboard and you gotta reinstally your drivers correctly.

Thanks

I'll check these settings out when I get home tonight.
When you say 'drivers', are you implying that I need drivers for a keyboard controller? This is not a standalone synth, just a keyboard controller. That doesn't need drivers, does it?
Please check back here for the next couple of days. I'm sure I'll have other questions.

And thanks again, I really appreciate it. Really.

yeah, even my strait to USB midiman Radium keyboard controller needed drivers... windows detected it, but it asked for a driver disk(which was on the CD-ROM that came with the keyboard). If you don't have drivers check the manufacturers website. Almost all manufacutreres have their drivers available for download. -Joe

ugh.. I've been brainwashed by the simplicity of newer controllers... I've thought it out more so let me clairfy a little... if its just a controller with no USB interface built in, you need a driver for the interface that hooks up to your computer. (you plug the keyboard into the interface, you plug the interface into the computer). Hope I didn't confuse you too much. But like I said, if the interface isnt built directly into the keyboard, you shouldnt need a driver for the keyboard itself, just the interface.

let me clarify...

The keyboard controller is plugged via midi cable directly into the midi in port of an SB Audigy Platinum live drive, which at the moment is the only soundcard in the machine. I wanted to be able to get the midi working before I added the AP 2496 in, making things more complicated.

Thanks

sorry it took so long to reply.. I've been pretty busy.. If its plugged directly into your sound card, I would guess you would go into control pannel - multimedia - MIDI tab and select your controller... I've never done this before so I'm not sure how you would get the system to recognise that its there. I'm guessing you'd click "Add New Instrument" and do something from there... Anybody wanna chime in on how exactly to do this?
