to whomever can help,
I bought a Delta 44 sound card, it comes with a break out box with 4 ins, and 4 outs. I have a Korg N1 keyboard, and I'm tryin to record from my keyboard into the cakewalk pro audio 8 program I have. I want to buy some microphones to record vocals, and guitar also, but I'm not sure what type of mics are good to buy, and I also may want to buy a mixer. But, I do not need if I need a mixer, or if that is simply a want. what are the benefits/problems with me buying a mixer, and if I do buy one which is the best one to buy for the money. I don't want piece of trash mixer, or microphones, but at the same time I am budget conscious. I'd rather save and get somethin nice than splurge on crap. Also, how exactly do I hook my keyboard, and pyamid amp up through my soundcard. My amp only has one input, and one output. I really want to learn. Someone please help me!!!!

You could probably get away without buyign a mixer, instead maybe just a 2-4 channel preamp, unless you'll be recording drums with a lot of tracks. The keyboard probably has a line out of sorts that could go directly into the soundcard. For guitar, sm57 is probably not only the best mic on guitar, but one of the most versatile mics in any application. For vocals depending on your price range the selection is huge, though i dont have much experience in the vocal mic area, so i dont wanna start talking out of my ass. What i can tell you from reading Harvey Gerst's "bible" is that a large diaphragm condenser is what is needed for vocals, though im sure thats common knowledge to all but me :).
