Hey, I just got a new Behringer XENYX 1622FX Mixer the other day and I'm trying to hook it up to my computer so I can record from it to my laptop. I've have no experience with using mixers and so please go easy on me. I have hooked it up to my laptop one way and the computer said that it was plugged in and working correctly, but for some reason there's no sound going to or from the mixer. Help is appreciated.

Thanks a lot,
Ryan

Howdy

you didn't mention if you were using the usb interface (UCA-202 i think) that came with your mixer. but ill assume that you are. :p

first step will be connecting your mixer to your interface. youll use some RCA cables to go from the TAPE outs of your mixer to the Input on the interface. then youll connect another set of RCA's going from your interface output to the TAPE in on your mixer.

then connect your interface to your computer through a usb port, and your computer will automatically install the drivers (given that you have xp or higher)

then on your sequincer, or recording software, youll want to go to prefrences and change the ins and outs to "USB AUDIO CODEC." you might have to change ins and outs inside the microsoft mixer(the little speaker on your task bar)

then connect a mic or something to your mixer and turn the levels up on the channel level, master level, and the preamp level if necissary.

this should be bassically all that there is to it let me know if it helps, i might have forgotten a step or two though.:o

good luck

oh btw if you want to moniter whats being played back youll want to change the 'CTRL Room' level fader on your mixer.

Yeah, Cool man it looks to be working good. Thanks a lot.

wouldn't it be more effective if you used the tape return for monitering so that it would free up that channel?

Sure, that'd work too. The way I think of it, the mixer's inputs are sources that are meant to go to the speakers, so with that reasoning the tape inputs are just another input source. In my case I have a little Yamaha QY20 synthesizer going to the tape input because I rarely use it.
