How to get that "EMINEM" vocal doubling effect for rap??

The solution is simple: double track your vocals!

 this isn't in the newbie section. I guess that gives me permission to comment on such total n00bness!

LOL! just kidding :laughings:

What elbandito said. Record yourself twice...

Hand's up if you listened to the track? :p
He's already double tracking.

well I'll own up that I didn't listen to the track. I assumed noobness and acted accordingly. My apologies.

I still haven't listened to it but I'm gonna suggest some slapback delay. When I get on a proper computer, I'll take a listen and edit this post if necessary.

OH! :laughings: I thought the track he gave us to listen was what he wanted to sound like. I guess I'm the n00b here :spank::spank::spank:

I want what he's drinking!!! Haha!

By the by... I sound EXACTLY like the guy on the track i posted. Exactly!

LOL. funny stuff..

OP. I think you've got the fundamentals down. What you do you feel is lacking?

The big difference i head is probably the conviction. Eminem always sounds like someones totally f**ked him over.

Maybe just give it some balls?

Balls. Gotcha. Will do.

'Atta boy!

Post back and let us hear yeah?

Listenin back again,
are there held guitar notes or held oohs or something in the background during the rap? Personally I'd drop them.
Maybe roll of some of the lows on the voice to make it more attacking, and if possible get your double tracking even tighter.

Don't get me wrong, It's not bad at all, but the less difference you can have between your two copies the better.

sounds a lot tighter to me.
Still a little drift on "lock that door", but yeah, definitely tighter.

So did you delete your track?

Eminem usually shouts instead of talking in his songs, at least in his early material. I imagine he does a lot more than most rappers trying to get as close as possible to the exact same mood that he was in when he wrote the lyrics.

I once heard that Eminem actually quad-tracks his vocals. The first two are just normal angry rap. The third is him rapping at a very low whisper-like volume, and then the fourth is him straight scream-rapping. He compresses the 3rd and 4th a ton then blends them with the first 2.

Although keep in mind that I did just "hear" that one time, so I have no idea if it works. It would give you a nice big sound though :D

M and M uses seriously expensive gear and equally talented engineers and mixers. Unless he tells us (truthfully) it's all just speculation. lol...
