Hello everybody,
I just purchased a focusrite scarlett solo. I don' t own a Mac but a PC with window 7. I got ableton live 9 on my computer but it sounds complicated and someone recommended me to get garageband to start. I have been trying to download it, but it didn t work.
Hopefully someone can help me here, and let me know how I can get this programme, free if possible.:thumbs up:
Thanks in advance guys :)

I don't think that Garage band is available for PC, since it is an Apple product.

It's always puzzled me why Ableton is included with so many interfaces. Like you. I always found it unintuitive for simple recording.

Go download Reaper and see if it makes more sense to you. It's free to try, cheap to buy. The demo is fully functional. It's really a great DAW that can go from simple to complex projects with ease.

I got Ableton Live Lite with some MIDI controllers and, like you, was too intimidated by it to try using it-- I didn't even know where to begin! I ended up buying Acoustica Mixcraft because I read that it was basically "Garageband for Windows." I like Mixcraft because it seems to be very intuitive and easy to use

However, I eventually took a free online class on Coursera called "Introduction to Ableton Live" that helped me a lot. It turns out Ableton Live is actually very easy to use!

I recommend that you give it a try before you decide to switch to something else. Note that I'm not suggesting that you stick with Ableton Live, because there might very well be some other DAW out there that will appeal to you more than the rest, and the only way you'll ever find it is by trying out different DAWs. I'm just saying you should actually try using Ableton Live before you ditch it, since it could turn out to be that one DAW that appeals to you more than the rest.

Thanks for your answers !
I have started to do use live, using a few tutorials on YouTube, and it's not has hard as it looks actually!the way the programme Is made is intimidating because there are so many buttons and stuffs, think I am gonna give it a good shot :)! I am still a bit confused about how to create my own drum bit, so I really need to work on this... Thanks for your answers, :)

For the average user, I think the first trick to learning how to use Ableton Live is to learn about the two little icons in the upper right area of the screen, which let you switch back and forth bertween Arrangement View and Session View. By default it's set to Session View, which is understandable because that used to be Live's unique mode for creating and triggering loops for live performances (Acoustica Mixcraft 7 and Bitwig Studio now have similar features, so it's no longer unique to Live). Even though the Session View is easy to use, I think it throws off any users who are familiar with other DAWs because it looks so different. (I've got some other DAWs that also start up on non-standard-looking screens, and they were-- or still are-- harder for me to learn simply because it wasn't as intuitively obvious to me what I was supposed to do next after being presented with this screen that didn't look like anything I'd ever seen before.) If you've used other DAWs and you just want to record something-- not trigger loops live-- switching to Arrangement View right after Live starts up will make Live much more familiar-looking to you.

I haven't tried to create my own drum kit yet, so I can't offer any suggestions or insights, but I'm sure there must be some videos on YouTube that explain how to do that.
