I have some techno-loopy software that I like for producing drum and electronic sounds and what have you...

How could I get the output from this to go onto a track in a software-based multi-track recorder? Right now all I can do is save the techno output to a .WAV, then import that onto a track. What I'd like to do, is record on the fly onto a track.

This techno software is called Fruity Loops, and I'm using this freeware called Quartz Studio Free. I have the plain old Soundblaster Live card.

Thank you!!!!

There's a feature with your Live!-card named "What U Hear". Open the Creative Surround Mixer, and select "What U Hear" as your recording source. Now you should be able to record your beats n' loops into any software...

Thank you, kind sir. I am now trying to hunt down the right drivers for this SB Live card.

I'm 99% sure I need them, cause right now I don't even have a "Creative Surround Mixer" program.

You should be able to double click the speaker icon in your tooltray, select Options, Properties, Recording, then select "What U Hear" or "Stereo Mix" or whatever your driver is calling it.

I would recommend against doing it this way though.. Your best bet is to do what you described you're doing now - export to Wave, import into your audio app.

You'll lose some quality recording if you record via "Stereo Mix", as the sound is being passed through the card before being recorded - kind of like losing a "digital generation", like in the old days copying tapes.
