Hello homerecording.com community,

i have purchased a Tascam M1016 8 Track Mixer and a Tascam 32B 4 Track reel to reel recorder.
I have also a Multicore Cable 8x Mono instrument jack to 8x Mono chinch.

I would like to set up everything so i can user channels 1-4 for the instruments (drums, guitar, bass and rhodes)
and the channels 5-8 for the signal comming back from the reel to reel masachine.

Is it possible that i use the EFF send outputs from the mixer to get my instruments to the 34B?
Or do i need a mixer with direct out's for every channel?

Here is a picture of the Tascam M1016: h**p://ocdepot.com/blackthorne/ebayimages/11-03-11-P1210226.JPG

Thanks!

I'd not go there.

The M1016 is a live sound mixer that lacks any tape-in or seperate submix section that would accommodate tape playback and monitoring. (I could be wrong, but) By look of it all the inputs and Eff-Rtns route directly back into the stereo Mains-Out buss. For tape playback and overdub-sync monitoring you need a seperate submix section apart from the Mains. The problem with doing it as you propose, is the loopback from the recorder's REC-ENABLE tracks would feedback into the Main Outs (stereo buss) and would be very problematic. That's putting it mildly. The first time you have an input and playback source open simultaneously (REC-ENABLE) will be memorable, maybe damaging your hearing and your equipment in one shot. I'd not do it. At minimum, I'd look for an M-1B for overdub/sync monitor, in other words, having a separate mixer for inputs and playback,... OR I'd look for a "recording" mixer that provides a seperate submix/Tape-In section, onboard. M208, M30, M216, M35, M308 or M312, for example.
:spank::eek:;)
