How to calculate BPM based on markers?

Hey guys,

I need some help. I currently have 4 markers placed in an audio
track in Sonar 3. These represent the first beats of the first 4 measures. I
want to calculate the tempo of this track based on these markers. I
have been led to believe from a fellow Sonar user that it has the
ability to calculate tempo based on markers. Anyone have a clue how
to do this. I've stared at my "Sonar 2.0 Power" for hours now (even
though I now am using Sonar 3.0) and can't seem to find the info if
it's in there. Any thoughts? Other people suggested I use Acid and other programs to do it, but I'd rather learn if Sonar had a way to do what I want it to internally. Exporting to another program would just suck.

I think that can only be done with the loop-slicing tools -- not the standard SONAR markers.
 
I thought you had to double-click the file to open up the loop construction window and use the beat markers in there, not the standard markers in the normal track view.

Not sure. I haven't monkeyed with anything dealing with loops... ever. Didn't think it was going to be that complicated. Ok.. how 'bout a follow up question that MAY be easier.

The audio track that I was talking about is a drum track recorded from a drum machine. It has kick, snare, hi-hat and I think a cymbal crash or two. Nothing fancy at all... strictly 4/4 time. I used a high pass EQ on a copy of the track to get rid of most of the non-hihat/cymbal info. I then used the "extract tempo" (not sure if that is the name) on that EQ'd track to create a MIDI file with MIDI notes that occur everywhere that the hi-hat is struck... it seems to sync up fairly well. Can I use something in Sonar to QUICKLY figure out the BPMs of THIS track?

The tempo markings created by extract the timing are the bpm numbers.
 
Ok, you lost me. Where would I look to see BPM = 140 or 80 or whatever? I could have sworn I checked out the tempo map (or whatever that view is called) and no info was in there. I'm at work right now, so unfortunately I don't have the stuff in front of me.

It works like this: First you set the tempo, record to a metronome.

If you don't record to a metronome, there's no way Sonar can tell you the BPM (unless you take Acidrocks advice).

But you can measure the time it takes to play one meassure, and then use this.
