how to build gobos?

Hello,

Right now I'm in the process of recording my band. But we are having some problems with the echo and reverb of the room being the drums are in a circular cut out in the room. Also there is no real isolation for the vocals except out in the main room. Is there any cheap efficient ways to build gobos that could help the sound tremendously with only about $200-300. Thanks in advance
 
buy some 1" open cell acoustic foam from markertech and some 24" x 1" styrofoam insulation sheets from home depot and glue the foam to the insulation. Stick some velcro tabs to the sides of the panels and you can form gobos or portable absorbers (or reflectors, depending on the facing side). They're lightweight and work great.
 
I built a set of panels, (4'x6' worked for me) with 6" and 8" of standard fiberglass stuffed into frames. One is 1/2 ply set off-centered in 6" edge. It gets about 8" of glass on one side, thinner on the other. This sets long-way between the kit and the bass amp, (deep side to the bass). The others are on 4" edge with 1/4 ply on the back, glass on one side. One sets on its side to form a V with the heavy one for the drums to set in, the others can stand up leaned on the walls.
Light enough, moveable, tall enough to do a little partial vocal/guitar semi-booth.
I also built some smaller 2'x4' versions for other spots on the walls, but thanks to Ethan's FAQ site, I see how I could improve the low-end on the wall units by paying attention to the mounting.
I figure around $100-150 in supplies and some sore knees.
