How to best treat my room for room modes?

Hi there,

So I ran a sine wave test and I have a really strong resonant frequency in my room centered around 150hz. What do people usually do about that? From looking around the web, it seems like it would take something very thick to absorb that frequency. I can mix with headphones if I have to but I'd like to be able to use my monitors as well. Also that is going to make my guitar recordings not sound so good either, especially with the thrash metal stuff I like to record.

Thanks for any help, I know very little about this subject.

Great question. What do people usually do about that? Well, first off, I'd pull out an AR-15 and shoot that motherfucker. Other than that, I'd hang here awhile and find out why 150hz is there in the first place or if it matters. OR..you could decide to find out which matters most...if your third finger on the seventh fret while transitioning from a b5 to a +5 chord actually creates a resonance or not.
