Any Help With E.q.???

Well update is that we captured the kit really well. I mix it down to one stereo track and I am now starting to E.Q. it. Any advice on settings? Or making it punchy, and have high ends cutting through. Any help on the bass guitar EQ settings as well?

Or words of advice?

Too broad and dumb of a question huh?

lmao yeah you could say.

narrow it down a bit, 1st off see where you get yourself remembering that if it sounds right flat, it sounds ok

Crappy mics sound good through decent preamps. If you have money, get good preamps. Good mics still sound like crap through crappy pre's. Just a tip

for someone that doesn't have any preamps other than those in my control 24 desk crappy mics actually sound good in the right place

a skytronic copy of a shure 55 (elvis mic) sounded ace on female voice

a super cardiod behringer sounded not bad on a snare & not bad on toms

cheap eagle mics sound good on bass drum & toms with some EQing

basically to have enough money to get a minimum of say 4 pre's 1200-2000 (pounds in my case)..................that's a lot of cash for some of us

sometimes crappy mics just sound crappy.........behringer C2

what i use

Hi guys

Right now, i'm using the Audio Technica DR-DRM drum mic kit, however one tom mic went out, so I'm using an AKG 770. I have an SM81 and a KSM109 on overheads. so my set up looks like this

Audio Technica DR-DRM on toms and kick
AKG 770 Snair
SM57 Hi-Hat
SM81 Overhead Right
KSM109 Overhead Left

I'm using a total of 7 mics, my recorder (zoom 1608cd) can only record 8 tracks at a time. So we only have room for a trash track while the drums are recording. I'm thinking about useing the recorderman setup.

Now I have recorded at places like Fat Tracks (used to be Buck Owens Recording Studio). I've worked with Max Reese who enginneered for Korn and Tom Petty. So I'm looking for Drum Sounds in my own studio that will messure up to something that I've released before.

Do you guys recomend this recorderman setup, or do you have a better idea as to how I can use less tracks on my recorder.

Thanks
-Stephen

PS. I hope to upgrade to a 24HD by the end of the year, which will take away from that head ache, however this stuff will still be good to know because i'll use the zoom for demo sessions.

Well the first mix out of the gate is bad because the bass had some issues (very low) and we have been pulling our hair out...So I tried to salvage as best I could just to have something out right now. We still have 2 other tunes in progress that should be problem free.

We are now looking into local studios to go to. It is just too hard right now to get what we want with just me. :(

But it is at our site...."Uncle Shamus"
