How sequence a synth and sync it to a drummachine a'la New Order?

Anybody know how to sync a synth like a Juno-60, or SCI pro one to a modern drum machine. My drum machine has midi in only. I'm quite baffled yet extremely intrigued by this whole world of syncing and sequencing. I'm going for that New Order thing. Do I need an outboard sequencer to hook up to my synth and the drum machine at the same time? I've read a bit about cv/gate, but makes no sense, and am guessing it only will when I have hands on experience.

It depends on the synth and the drumcomputer. A juno 60, for instance, has an arpegiator which can be synced to the trigger out of for instance a tr707. But it also has dcb, a sort of proto midi, so you could hook it up to a dcb sequencer like the jsq60 or a midi sequencer using a midi to dcb converter. Same goes for synths with cv/gate or drummachines with din/sync. There are many ways to sequence these older machines together, but it really depends per model and even per brand (korg and yamaha used a different cv than roland). So you have to be a bit more specific.

what kind of budget do you have to play with and would you be interested in going down the computer route.

for instance you could use something like the izotope drum prog loaded up with say all the dmx ..linn and drumulator type samples and have that linked to your juno.

if it was a vst inside a daw then the daw could via midi be the sequencer as well.

the hardware route might be to look at say the yamaha qy700..its a sequencer and can be got quite cheap these days....even has onboard sounds but nothing to write home about.

later on you could just add other midi bits of kit such as sound modules or drum machines.

of course it would be great to get the oberheim dmx with the midi modification...then neworder ala blue monday would be within your grasp..
