Maybe we should ask Barry Brandt, the drummer for Angel! :D

Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Holy Tom angles batman!

Sort out those tom angles dude! But a nice kit. :D

I wonder if this reply prompted the new post?

j/k

LOL :p ;) :) :D

Keith Moon kept 'em low and flat so that he could be more easily seen.

Or so I've heard.

I like them as level and as low as I can get them, so I get a more even strike on each. I don't mount drums on my kick, so I have a tom to the left and two floors to the right, with the ride cymbal over the kick. I still have to angle the drums just a little bit to get them as low as I like them, but they're not tilted at an insane angle.

You know, I preferred his North brand drumkit. Now that was killer.

I have to give credit where credit is due - they have the baddest logo ever.

If you turn it upside down - it still says "Angel" if you read it from left to right!

As for the band... eh, I have one Angel CD called White Hot. I bought it simply because it's fairly rare, and I got it for $5. I figured that at some point in the future, it will be worth something! LOL

I postion the rack toms as close as possible together w/o touching and angle them at about maybe 45 degrees pretty much facing me not straight up and down. But I also like playing reallly low and basically hiding behind the drumkit. the drummer from the band that always records puts his toms together and faces them straight up and down no angle at all, I hate it i have to sit really high and i always hit the rims.

OH, and to stay on topic.

I stick my arm out with the stick in hand, and generally - the snare and toms are at the exact same angle as the beat of the drumstick so that I get maximum impact. So the toms are "almost" flat, and actually quite low. If I'm jsut using the 15" tom between my kicks, I can get it the same hight as the snare if I wanted it that low :D but I like it to be at least an inch or so above the snare.
The floor toms are basically the same height as the snare.

And the cymbals are relatively flat.

I am playing around with the setup of my kit.

I am trying to set them up with less of an angle but then they end up to high for me to play.

Photo of my setup.

yeah its kind of hard to get the toms flatter without having the bottom of the toms touching the kick, and by then the heads are to high to hit without hitting the rim 75% of the time.

Yup. Ten characters.

You play a standerd 5 piece right? I'll find you some pics on how they should be set up. Also some different ways you can set up a 5 piece. The pics will be posted tomorow, im just about to go out you see.

Sit higher :D

I like my mounted tom (I only can have one) in front of me, maybe a bit to the right. It's angled toward me maybe 10 to 15 degrees. Both my floor toms are angled about 10 to 15 degrees as well, maybe a bit less than the mounted tom. The snare is flat. I play on top of the drums, not into them. Also, my cymbals are all pulled up very close to me (horizontally) and are about 20 to 30 degrees angled towards me.

I'm incredibly anal retentive about the angles of everything. I need to be able to play it and it needs to also look really nice. I'm weird like that. Also, I'm kinda short so I can't get multiple rack toms or deep toms above the bass drum, so I only use one.

Everybody should take a look at Tim Browns kit! You all should get a set up like his if you play rock! Maybe he'll post another pic. His kit is awesome.

I use one rack tom mounted on a snare stand. I basicly have the Bonham set up exept i've got a 14x24 kick instead of the 14x26 (for now). The 10x14 rack tom is only slightly angled and the 16x16 and 16x18 floors are almost flat and slightly lower than the snare. The cymbals are Bonham sized as well!

Experiment and decide what works for you AND the band you play with.

Cheers

I run about a 30 degree angle on my toms, snare is flat, and my Cymbals are real low. Actually about 6" from the toms. I mainly use the Buddy Rich Technique when it comes to Cymbals, when you are sitting in front of your kit your cymbals should be around shoulder high.

The rules are: There are no rules! What's more important is what works for you. I personally like my snare and floor tom totally level and my two rack toms slightly angled toward me. Keith Carlock on the other hand has his floor toms angled AWAY from him and his ride cymbal almost covering up his rack toms. What is most important is: Can you keep steady time? Can you accompany other musicians without overpowering them? Can you make it swing? Set up doesn't matter if you have the talent to really play! :)

Powerman 5K

Check out Adrian's set up...
One bass and two floor toms with a snare.
Rack toms don't even exist!
Now thats flat :D
