How much money do you make off the sales of your cds?

I'm interesting in hearing what everybodys costs versus profits are ranking at.

Ill start the thread just so nobody thinks Im being nosy

It costs me

22 cents per blank cdr

15 cents for clear clear jewel case

6 cents for 4 color cd insert

so 43 cents per cd.

Me and my sales team sell the discs for 8 dollars a cd.


Please dont be a stranger...and NO NEGATIVITY...lets keep this thread as civil as possible. It'll also give us something to do while the web admin fixes the dang site!

I'm glad you posted this. My band is just working on pricing now.

We are selling our album for $5

but my cost estimates are quite a bit higher than yours

Paypal fees $0.54
First Class Mail $1.06
CDR blank $0.30
burner wear $0.10
CD label $0.20
1 pg inlay/cover cardstock paper $0.06
color ink $0.15
jewel case $0.20
CD mailer $1.20

Total: $3.81


So how are you able to do it for so little money?

PS I'm using padded envelopes for CD mailers but that's quite expensive. Any idea where single CD mailers like CircuitCity and Amazon use can be obtained?
 
sathyan - Have you checked Staples?
I used to work at a Staples, and I think we had some CD mailers IIRC...

I'll check the Staples website.
 
Good idea for a thread. I'm getting ready to print an album and I'm curious if the place I've settled on is fairly priced for the market.

I'm spending about $3,000 for 2000 cd's. They come with 8 panel booklet (color on front and back panels only), 2 color silkscreen on the cd, and are professionally packaged. I'm planning to sell them for $10 at shows and $12 online. The $2 more or less covers the price of shipping and paypal services. So, I guess that comes out to about $8.50 profit.

Sathyan, there's no way you should be spending $1.20 for a cd mailer. You can buy them in bulk on ebay for about 15 to 25 cents each including shipping charges (the lower prices are for larger orders of course).

next week we plan to begin offering an electronic download option for our customers.

Bandwidth: $0.10
TOTAL: $0.58

The plan is to offer the music as MP3 192kbps VBR (with M3U playlist) and cover art as JPG.
