How Much Latency From Your Delta?

Hi_D_Ho_Man

Tha' So & So ,So & So
I have a Delta 66. I just updated to the most recent driver at M-Audio's site. I'm getting like 10ms latency.

I never had noticable latency before i updated; now i do, and i dont remember which driver i had previously.

Damn, it wasnt broke, so why in the hell did i try to fix it?

Anyway, is 10ms close to what any fellow Delta users are getting?

BTW... XP Home is my OS

When I had the AP 2496, I had 0 latency when monitoring with WIN XP

Zero latency, Stealthtech? That's not possible.

10 ms seems pretty good to me. I don't think you can hope to get too much lower than that.

How do you measure the latency anyway? Never figured that part out. BTW, I use a Delta 410 with 'no noticable' latency.

according to the Delta panel where you set the buffer size, I should be getting 2ms latency @ 96kHz... Awhile back I actually measured it, and it was ~2ms.

PS. your buffer size may have been reset... the latest drivers, the DMA buffer is set in the Delta Control Panel.

2-3 ms? That low, eh? I'm surprised...

I have the latest drivers, and I see no mention of latency numbers in the Delta Control Panel. Where does it show this?

When you change the buffer size, you get a little popup explaining some stuff and showing approx latencies @ 96K, 44.1K and 22.05K... I am on WinXP Pro, so the win9x drivers may not do this.

Keep in mind most of the projects I record so far have a small number of tracks, so as I add to them and they get bigger, I may need to bump that up some, but usually can keep it less than 5ms without troubles.

Well let me reword that....not enough where I could hear it...damn near 0.. Input monitoring by the way.

Thanks, jdechant! (I'm on XP Pro now too, by the way.)

Stealthtech, thanks for clarifying. Input monitoring is indeed so close to zero you might as well say that, but that's a different kettle of fish than what we're talking about here. It doesn't help when card manufacturers with input monitoring tout it as being "zero latency," it immediately makes people who don't know any better think there's something super-special going on with their card.
