A few weeks ago I bought a Les Paul Custom offf ebay which will mean I realy wont need my Maton Mastersound and I could use a bit of extra money. So I've decided to sell it on Ebay. Could I get some feedback on how much you think i should ask for it. I was thinking of starting bidding at $650 with a buy now at $800. Which I think should be fairly reasonalbe considering I've seen them for go for around $1800 (see link at bottom of thread) I've got a couple of pics (if it works) so you can see what condition its in. Apart from a couple of chips on the back of it it's in fairly good nick (bu it does look second hand). The only other thing is that the pickup selector doesnt stop where it should (i just keeps going around) but it still does the job fine.

Surely someone has an idea on what i cold get for it? Even if its an uninformed opinion. How much would you pay if you were in the market for a guitar in the price range.
Cheers

I assume your talking Aus $? Maton's aren't very well known outside of Australia so you may not get much feedback. The only reason I know about them is because I'm friends with an Aussie blues player who brought over a Maton acoustic. I didn't even know they made electrics.

I would just put it on Ebay for a high price and see what happens. You can always relist it lower but if you sell it too cheap the first time there is nothing you can do.

With a RRP of around the $1600 mark would you expect $600 gettable though? (at a guess)
Also will the chips in the guitar ruin my chances of $600-$800. Im gonna wait a few days before i sell it and i'll ask $600 for it but i just thought i should get an idea of how much i could get.
Cheers

CA,

Most stores calculate s/hand prices around 50% of RRP......although if something is near new/mint, they may go up to 66%. I'd be curious to know what model your LP is and what you paid for it, as I have yet to see a Gibson sell on Ebay Aust., for a price that is fair to the seller.

Tex,

Maton were big on quality archtops and electrics until the mid/late 60's. At that time Fenders and Gibsons were not as plentiful here and relatively expensive........as they became easier to get, Maton started concentrating on the dreadnaught acoustics and only produced the occasional electric. It is only in the last few years that they have made a dubious comeback with the Mastersound range.

I believe that Murray from The Wiggles plays one of those! :D:D

I was wondering what that guitar was.... now I know!

I bought the Les paul from the Australian ebay site but for items available to Australia not located in Australia (so its comming from the states)
hers a link to it http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2374411091&category=47072
I wasnt even looking to buy a guitar but i couldnt pass this one up.
Yes Murray does play one (although mines a silver sparkle top and his is blue sparkle top)
I'd guessed that about half price would be a reasonlable price (plus mines got hard case and they dont come with one as standard)

Nice git and a LHander to boot.

My son bought a LP in from the US, (off a dealer on Ebay), last September and we picked up 8 more Gibsons from Sydney airport last week that he bought from a guy in Canada.

I don't know how yours is being shipped, but we found from experience that you can't go past DHL for worldwide shipping. They have the guitars on the ground in Sydney within 36 to 48 hrs of them being despatched........cost is between $220 - 300. It takes longer to get them through Customs and Quarantine than it does to fly them across the Pacific. Import duties, GST, etc., will probably cost you approx., $300.
