I know from reading the posts Schoeps is the gold standard for interior dialogue recording.

But how much different is the Schoeps cmc641 from Sennheiser mkh50?

Is the off axis recording that much different?

Anyone with experience with both I would love to here your take.

Which Schoeps mic. do you mean?

There is no CMC 641 listed on the Schoeps website at all - the closest is the CMH 641 - the CMH 641 U is the only mic. Schoeps list with the figures 641.

But Schoeps and Sennheiser are very different.

The Schoeps CMH 641 is an AF condenser mic. with built-in pop filter, very lacking as the bass end because it is designed for hand-held vocal use.

The Sennheiser MKH 50 is a symmetrical capsule RF condenser with a very good bass end (the new MKH 8050 is even better in the bass).

They are both superb mics., but very different.

Because of the way the RF mic. is designed, the off-axis response of the Sennheiser symmetrical capsule microphones tends to be very uniform and smooth.

If you did not mean the CMH 641, please can you say which mic. you do mean, as there is no CMC 641 according to the Schoeps website.

I was talking about the cmc6 with the MK41 hypercardioid capsule. They are sometimes referred to as cmc641. Thanks for any help..

OK - both have very good polar plots.

The MKH 50 goes down lower (more bass end response)

The Schoeps is an AF condenser, the Sennheiser is and RF condenser.

Both are great mics.

The new Sennheiser MKH 8050 is also great, but a little cheaper.

But you will really need to listen for yourself.
