How many of you are using PARIS

I'd just like to clear this up, maybe I missed something. antofants says something about being fed up with computer based recording so PARIS Pro looks good.... isn't every PARIS package still computer based recording? It's one or more PCI cards with some external gear and software, right?

Yes it is computer based but as I mentioned earlier it doesn't tax the host computers CPU as much. A G3 Yosemite should be able to handle it well. It sounds to me like something else is wrong with Autofants computer. And you are right Diragor, if it's crashing without audio software on it, it's gonna crash with it.

hey Diragor,
I did say my computer was crashing a lot. What I've been thinking about is getting a new computer and giving this peice of junk (nothin against macs, just this particular computer). With all the problems that I've encountered ever since I tried to get into using a computer to record audio, I really am liking the sounds of a system that might be a little more stable than others.
By the way, could you explain what a UDMA/66 is?
Also, since you said that you work with the MOTU unit, I posted a question concerning using the 2408 with Adats; trying to use the Adat processors and lightpipe (while in record ready mode)to run audio straight into the computer without actually recording anything on the Adats. Do you know what I mean? Is this possible or have I been hittin the bottle too hard again?

Not sure what you mean with ADAT/Lightpipe thing. Why are the ADATs even involved if you're not recording to them and you're sending the audio into the computer? Besides, I have no experience with combining MOTU devices and other stuff - I just run mics into my board into the MOTU 1224 into the computer, where it stays.

UDMA/66 is a hard drive specification that tells you the speed of data transfer. The 66 stands for a 66 MB per second maximum burst transfer rate. It definitely makes a big difference in an audio workstation to have a UDMA-66 or 100 drive rather than the older 33 drives.

I've been reading up on Paris at their website. Though Paris Pro is too rich for my blood, a smaller bundle may work well for me.

I understand the PCI DSP card resides in the computer, connected to the c-16 control surface. If you dont purchase the MEC, how does the 2 in 2 out work, is it installed in the computer as well, or into the c-16, or is it a stand alone containing the converters, and used instead of the MEC?

Thanks,
Twist

The 2 in 2 out plugs into the EDS card via a serial type cable.
