Does it take for yall to come up with someting when starting a beat?

sometimes i spend weeks on just making the beat.. by then i usually have an idea of the track in my head... when making regular trance i just put down the melody right away with the pads and shit and then i build the beat from there...

eh....

when I first started making tracks it took me maybe 4 hours to a few days to complete a track now it takes 10 min to maybe 45 min...

The amount of time varies. Sometimes it will take me 20 minutes :), but then sometimes it'll take a month :(.

Later... :D

the answers don't intrigue me nearly as much as the question.

i once heard swizzbeats say that it took him 15 minutes to lay the tracks for one of eve's tunes. is that supposed to be good?
having said that, i once completed a song in a weekend. and when i say completed, i mean the concept and recording of the beat, instrumentation, and lyrics. that time from friday night to sunday night is an aberration for me. it usually takes weeks.

OK, WTF has time got to do with it? I just do it till I feel it's finished, however long it takes me. Sometimes I leave a track and come back to it months later.

the fact that anyone can make a track in 15 minutes and the public will buy it makes me sick. Too much ganga, no heart, pea sized-brains for some of these rap cats. Me it usually takes a few weeks, depends on what comes first: the melody or the beats. It's usually the melody and I find beat making tedious some times especially with any downtempo, trip hop type stuff.
