Not a bad start.
You have two things working against you.

1.Drums are not tuned properly
2.Room reflections are causing the hollow sound

If you throw those drums in a mix they would be lost forever.

If the drums are not tuned properly they won't sound good in any studio. And on the other side of the coin....
If the room isn't set up to record drums then no properly tuned drums will record correctly.

try this one on for size. same track, just very specific EQ and compression. (and a bit of reverb)

I think you're doing fine on the EQ, Comp and effects part.
Again the room and tuning are working against you.

The kick is tuned too high and damped too much to get any real depth.
The snare has two separate pitches that will give it a tubby sound along with the higher ping.

But again try killing the room with what ever you can find such as blankets, foam etc.

I think you're getting close so don't discourage.

Effects are one thing, but I think you need to focus on the room acoustics and tuning the drums (as mentioned by CGibson).

Keep at it - you're off to a great start.

Spend some time trying to get the best sound out of your kit. For the room you may try hanging some blankets placing some furniture (I put a futton close to the kick and cover it with a thick blanket to reduce snare and cymbal bleeding into the kick mic) near to the whole kit, you need to experiment with your room acoustics. I don´t have much room to experiment because there are two big bookshelfs against two of the four walls of my recording room, the other thing I do besides hanging some blankets and moving the futton is place one sofa to each side of the kit, well my kit is placed in between, I´m too lazy to move them :D, so that´s how I record my drums. But before that I ´ve spent much time tunning my whole kit, even changing all the heads.

yeah, it sounds really "airy", almost like you're recording from a distance
