Hey guys, first i would like to say thank you for taking your time to help others and myself. From reading so many threads i have learned a great deal in recording and i couldn't have done it without you.

my power metal song:

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=912761&songID=7241260

this is my current project, it is just a part of the intro.
my current chain is the following: Godin redline 1 > EH-Metal Muff pedal > non-sim MG100hdfx head (signal is going out of emulated line-out) > Tascam US-122L > cubase > TSS > KeFIR v1 2ch (using guitarhack impulse JJ powertube full set straight, Centre-Half > cubase dynamic compressor.

tell me what you think, if its possible to ignore the rest of the instruments and just focus on the guitar it would be appreciated.

sounds muffled I'd eq some of the bottom out and then use a compressor to bring the sound closer. Kind of how you compress room mics in a drum recording to make that room sound thick. You need heavy compression on that track to bring the amp closer in. The best way would be to cut it with soft limiting compression going in so it hits the input harder, but its tricky doing that cause once you compress it you can't undo it. The other way would be to compress the bahjeezes out of it in post do you have just that track by itself? i could try an edit it so you can hear what I'm talking about i might not be explaining it to well

the thing is, its not going into my Digital interface clean, i have a distortion pedal before the DI.

Sounds ok to me. If you like the sound go with it. I just dont get why most guitarist are always chasing a certain tone. Especially that tone their favorite guitarist has. Many times that sound is a layer of many different tones. It may be 2 to 10 guitar tracks on top of each other. And many times what may be the worst tone in the world (to some of course), will sound great when mixed with a bass, drums and other instruments. :)

IMO the tone does not fit the song as mixed.

also, the mix has a bit too much bottom.

Try pulling out a little (actually, a lot) right around 90Hz.

It ought to help cure that "...And Justice For All" sound.

I think you need some more grit to the song and a little less bottom. I would suggest getting the tone you want out of your head first then once it sounds perfect mess with the mic position and very last mess with the mix/eq. If you can get the sound out of your head that you're looking for I guarantee it will sound great in the mix!
