I was just about to buy myself a 100$ power-supply to my computer when I discovered a good way to make your supply quieter. You know what it was?

It was a..........VACUM-CLEANER!!

I didn't remember the last time I cleaned it. Now it's much quieter. Unfortunately my cpu-fan and hard-drive still make alot of noise.

The bottom line is:

CLEAN YOUR COMPUTERS POWER-SUPPLY!!!

mr. clean mr. clean....

Yep,
works good on squeaky deskjet printers as well (if not a vacuum then the "canned air"). There are other computer components people think are broken when they're actually just filthy (i.e. - mouse). The reason it doesn't track very well is because the ball is sliding around on 2 years build-up of lint, dirt, potato chip grease, milkshake...etc. Not to say that anyone is filthy or they have a dirty house..but computer fans are a magnet for dirt and the other peripherals accumulate it quickly. Have you ever looked down inside your keyboard? Sick! I was listening to a local talk radio/classical station and when an office was tested for bacteria the filthiest place was not the bathroom but the inside of the keyboard...makes you want to go wash your hands right now huh.

I wouldn't recommend the canned air approach. The last time I did that to a PSU, the unit developed a very loud and annoying buzz.

canned air

Well,
The canned air comment was really geared towards the Deskjet comment..but it's good to be sure everyone knows that :).

Not if you use one of the hand held battery operated units with the hairy brush. {no metal to metal}
Also, those air cans sometimes expel water vapor...especially if you hold the button in too long.
