i used to know how to go to start, run, and type something in, and it brougth up a big list of stuff and i could disable things to optimize ram usage.

anyone know this or any other tweaks?

1) Right click "My Computer"
2) Click on "Properties"
3) Go to "Advanced" tab
4) Click on the "Settings" button under the section that says "Performance"
5) Click on "Adjust for best performance"

This will turn off all visual aspects of Windows XP, therefore using less RAM and CPU to process all of the stupid visual effects :)

run...msconfig lets you in on some stuff

i'm still searching for uneeded things to disable.

i don't want to disable my object bar though!

Are you talking about the task manager?

that's just ctrl+alt+delete, then you can just end everything on there that you don't want.

If not, I don't know.

no...

hit windowkey+r

type in msconfig.

take a gander

I tweaked XP by formatting the drive and installing DeMuDi Linux :)

but

At least in the XP SP1 era msconfig has a bug that requires product reactivation each time it's used. I called MS wondering about it and they said don't use it... use services.msc which if typed in Start->Run will bring up all of the services on the PC.

The Rep also said that (at that time) there was no plan to fix msconfig... but if you are always around an internet connection you should be fine... but I was doing remote stuff and it was getting annoying. :)

if this is true, it's old. msconfig works fine. your services will be located under msconfig as well as everything else.
