How hard would it be to fix the threshold on the BlueMax comp?

I got this thing out of the dust box for a second look. It still seems like there might be a decent compressor in there -the biggest problen right off is having compression kick in on almost all the presets, and even in manual mode(!) even with the input set -20! (Back button out = "+4"? NOT) Except for a few of the presets, there doesn't seem to be any way to use the thing in a normal manner.
Might it be a simple mod?

Did you mean "+20"? If you have it set at -20, its going to compress everything that crosses that line. Or maybe I'm misreading something...

Instead of threshold, it has an input control that apparently feeds a set of fixed thresholds. But the scalling seem way out of wack.
Then again, maybe this one's been broken from day one.

It's -10, and that is for level matching reference. It is not a pad. The -10db setting is for low level instrument inputs and boosts the signal before compression. Set it at +4 for line level and your threshold on manual settings will be 10db. To effectively raise the threshold in manual modes, lower the input setting, increase the output to compensate. This works as well in tweaking the presets.

yeah I've had many problems with my bluemax coming in and out..its a great compressor but sometimes it doesn't give any GR. you have to sort of massage the knobs and buttons and it kicks in...put the input and ratio way up till you see the GR light up...then adjust.
