I am trading my van for some equipment and some guy offered me this:

I bought a Pearl drum kit in 12/01, hadn't played in almost 30 years. It's deep blue, 3 toms, chrome snare, 16" & 18" ZBTs, 17" & 20" K's, 8" & 10" splash, 14" hats, 4 cymbal stands (2 are booms), 2 boom arms for splashs, double pedal (didn't help!)... Never been outside, no scratchs, cracks, pretty dusty ~ takes 2 days or so to clean 'em... Only used to play along to cd's, never abused.

Just wondering how good that set is. I'm asking $1,250 for the van. Am I getting screwed?

Sell the van

I would pay $1000 for the kit brand new............ :D

Pearl Exports go for about 550 to 650 for a 5 piece, depending on finish. And they come with good hardware. ZBTs are Zildjians cheap line, but Ks are nice. Double pedals go for anywhere from 100 to who knows where, depending on manufacturer. And this is all used stuff, so I generally figure half of new for a base used price.

I'd probably not do it myself.

But, if you like it, have at it.

dust (and other environment factors) can really ruin a kit.. be careful

I would sell the van for what it's worth and use the money to get a new kit, lol. Depending on the van's condition... hopefully you'll be able to get more than $1200 :)

According to the Nada Appraisal Guides, the van is worth between $1,750 to $4,000. I'm not really interested in a drum set. I just thought that I could put the set on eBay cheaper than listing the van.

Based on the info you provided, the drums are not worth $1250. Sight unseen I would place the value in the $500 -$700 range.

I'd use the money to get a newer export... they are so much nicer..... or even an export select with are fantastic considering there price - the nicest exports are the 2002-2004 series in my opinion. With the ISS mounts, nice finishes, better sizes etc.. generally ZBTs sound a bit nasty. but the Ks are brilliant *the* best cymbals in the world:)
