How good are the micpre's on the Delta 1010LT...Really?

I've been using my Delta 1010LT soundcard with my SM58 for a while, but I recently got some dough together and bought an Audio-Technica AT4040 condenser.

My question now is...

Should I keep going into the micpre's on the 1010 LT and just get a source of phantom power, or get a phantom power/preamp combination and use that instead?
 
How do you turn off the preamps in the Delta 1010LT?
 
Don't know, maybe you can't??

I really don't know any thing about the 1010, sorry
