How does this sound?

After lurking around music stores, boards like this, websites and taking a beginners 2 day workshop im going to make the plunge. I will be recording acoustic insturments (guitar, bass mandolin and voice).
Does this setup sound O.K. for a beginner?
Comp- 475 AMD k6-2 with 8gig HD and 96 RAM
(I already have this so its kind of non negotiable)
Soundcard-GL Wave 496
Software-N Tracks
Mic- AT 4033
Preamp- still undecided (maybe you could suggest one for me)
Should this work ok for a newbie?? Do I need anything else??

It will most certainly work. The question you have to ask is will the quality of sound be as good as you want it. The problem with that question is that you can't really answer it until you try it. I think you could get a decent mix with that setup. You could upgrade the soundcard and get some more RAM later. As far as preamps, the ART tube's seem to be really popular around here.

Celeron.....Believe me, i learned the hard way about K-6 and digital audio. There are some people here who do fine with it, but being a beginner, u dont need the deck stacked against u from the get-go.....Trust me........
