any suggestion for what to put on toms?

or pres....like for the snare

ps how does the m-audio tampa sound on snare

Should do the trick ... assuming you've got a decent enough kit, room and drummer.

Sennheiser MD421s are pretty standard for toms, used on toms in most studios. You can snag one on ebay for about $250. Depending on the song you could get away with using one positioned between the two rack toms or just on the floor tom. They also make excellent guitar cab mics. If you don't want to spend that much you could try getting some cheaper, good quality dynamics like an EV RE15 or 635a, which would end up being versatile for you as well. You'll find that good quality dynamics are extremely versatile little suckers.

Those are good choices.

Nothing... the overheads will cover the toms.

Hmmm, DJL and I always seem to be on here at the same time...you're stalking me aren't you? Or maybe I'm stalking you....whaaa hahaha!

Hey, it's Chicago in the Winter...you've got to spend a little more time inside than some of us.

Speaking of Chicago, I was listening to your city's favorite sons, Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, today. Great album.

Having nothing to do with anything...anyone here listen to Cat Power? I've been hooked on her latest album ever since I discovered it. "Good Woman" is a hauntingly beautiful song.

Hmm, who's ringing my doorbell... lol.

Hi guys... lol.

Cat Power? Got a link?

Sorry, no link. Without knowing your musical tastes though, I would almost be willing to say that it would be worth your while to check it out.

You leave my doorbell out of this!!:D

Those look like good choices - although I would want to try the Audio Technica kick mics (especially ATM25 but also Pro25) over the AKG, and my preference is not for SM57 on snare, but Sennheiser E845. Beyer M201 if you can afford it.

They might have some mp3s at Matador Records' website.
