I am using Cool Edit Pro and i have 3 soundcards hooked up to my comp, one for my snare drum, one for my bass drum, and one for my toms. The guitar and bass is recorded through a Line 6 Guitar Port. I am kinda new to some of the computer recording stuff. I am still learning about eq's and compressing and other things. I was wondering what should be changed on some EQ's or anything else for that matter. How could i possibly make this recording better. I have some effects on the drums but non on the guitars. Thats about all. Thanks.

This also another short recording i did. Any suggestions here too. Thanks

I must say the drums sound damm good as well as the bass.

The guitar is a little sloppy at parts.

Don't know if that what your going for but if not I'd recomend palm muting that riff.

You might wanna make the bass a tad more visable.

Thats just my two cents...

The guitar lacks balls. Put a little more mids in there and some bass.

Everything is panned down the middle so the stereo spread isnt great. And over all everything is playing kinda sloppy.

Cant hear the cymbals with the drums, or toms, or kick. Basically all i hear is the snare which doesnt have very much crack to it.

the bass lacks definition. I can barely even tell its there.

danny

I hear WAY to much reverb on the drums. Were they mic'd far away or did you add this effect later?

The Mix

I did not mic up the cymbals, and did not mic up the toms, but i miced the snare and bass drum, the guitar does sloppy, and i was hoping to fix that, any suggestions? Also the reverb was added afterwards as an effect.

Another Mix To Listen To

I just made another mix today trying some other tips, if anyone can provide any suggestions for this mix feel free. Also in this mix no toms or cymbals were miced up, just snare and bass drum, and guitar and bass recored through guitar port.

Snare needs to be more roomey... turn down the snare mic a bit, and turn up the overhead mic a tad. Kick is also kinda weak, needs more attack and volume. I don't know much about guitar or whatnot, but that sounds a bit weak as well, perhaps turn that up?

And throw some compression on these suckers!

New To Compression

Sorry, but i am kinda new to compression, i have some compression plugins but haven't used them. I have a bluebear compressor which has some presets like drums and guitar and stuff. Could anyone maybe help me out with compression.

the snare seems funky like it needs ta crack a bit more and it seems a little heavey in the 4 to 500hz region. kinda boxy.

it sounds like your using a gated reverb, wich can be cool, but this reverb sounds very blatant.

The snare sounds really phasey to me. I think you should lower the snare and raise the kick drum.
