How does one organize plug-in lists?

Particularly for Pro Tools. My list has gotten out of hand! Some of them I uninstalled a long time ago, but they're still in the list. Others categorize themselves obnoxiously. Besides all the EQs and reverbs that have chosen to put themselves in the "other" category even. I have this one compressor for instance that for some reason puts itself in the "delay" category. Ugh!

It's not just Pro Tools either. My Sonar list at home is just as bad.

I would classify them like this:
Dynamics
EQs
Reverbs
Delays
Chorus
and whhatever else works for you. use your imagination. You may even classify a group in mostly used. first used, mastering, or even by instruments if it works for you Guitar, Bass, etc..

Or by where you got them from KRV, Steinberg, Cakewalk, computer magazine, etc...

Thanks for responding. That wasn't what I was asking though.

Let me clarify: I don't need advice about what plug-ins to put where, but rather how to literally change them!

I mean, I know exactly WHERE I want to put all of them. For instance, I'd like all of my compressors in the "dynamics" group. What I need to know is HOW do I move that damned compressor from "delay" to "dynamics"?

At least I found out earlier today how to get rid of items from the list (delete them out of /Program Files/Common Files/Digidesign/DAE/Plugins). Now all I need is to move the ones that are misplaced.

Go into that same folder where you deleted the plugs and organize them there. Create folders, name them what you want (compressors, reverbs, delays, etc) then drag and drop the plugs into those folders.

*edit, that works for cubase and vst plugs, i've not ever used pro tools but i'd assume it works the same.
