I am looking at the es 335 satin finish $1699. I have been wondering how you would change out the pots or add a varitone switch later. The only thing I figure is that you have to take out the p-ups and have some sort of special tool 8 or 9 inches long to reach the pots?

The Les paul supreme also has no access plate.

yep, Stew-Mac sells tools to work on hollow and semi hollow bodies.

Best tip for re-installing is to install everything on a piece of cardboard and then solder it up together so you can put everything in the guitar at one time. There are tips if you look around on some guitar repair sites. But, as with everything, its all about having the right tools.

SWeet!!

I've been craving the ES-335 satin ever since I saw it. If can stand ordering a guitar unseen, the do yourself a favor and contact http://www.guitarsetc.net/ or another shop - They could save you up to $200!! I've bought two Gibsons (Faded LP DC, J-185) from them, and plan on buying two more, my brother also bought a J-45 from them. They gave us some great deals and good service. I highly recommend them..

I recently installed new pots and rewired a copy 335 that had - and this is true - all the wiring eaten by mice.
I did as Hard2Hear says, I made a cardboard template of the holes and soldered it up. I then put fishing line through each hole and pulled it out through the "f" holes. This was attached to each pot as per which hole it went in. I then fed the wire spool back in through the "f" holes and pulled each pot into position and slipped the nut and washer down the line and did them up before disconnection the line.
It's a fiddly job and I did abuse the useless bastard who left his guitar where the mice could get at it. Incidently the first time I picked the guitar up from the music shop I got it home and took it back immediately because it was full of mouse shit and stunk to high heaven. I got it back a month or so later and it had been cleaned.

Great tip Clive. I have a 335 copy (Samick) that I need to replace the pick up selector on.

If you tie the line to the old pot/switch, it will pull through when you remove it, saving the step of feeding it and trying to get it to come out the f-hole.
Or, a piece of coat hanger with a bend at the end works well. Tape the line to the bend, feed it through the f-hole. Poke the bend up through the pot hole, grab the line.

Track Rat, this was a Samick, a Cherry red one, not too bad an axe but some of the people in aboriginal communities have a "whats yours is ours" frame of mind and things like guitars get passed around and pretty mistreated, but surprisingly I've had in a few Samicks and they have stood up to pretty hard use.
