How do you use the Nortronics Bulk

eraser. I just got one off of ebay and it didn't come with intructions. I'm trying to erase 1/2 in. tapes for my Tascam 38. The ebay info said it could erase up to 1/2 in. When I tried it the magnet stuck to the reel, so I held it back a little. When I played the tape it had a very strange pulsing sound of the the music that was alreading on the tape. The VU meters were rocking back and forth to the pulse. It says 1min on 5 minutes off. But I'm not sure how long to hold the eraser to the tape or do I move it around.

The way to run one of these things is to turn it on about an arm's length away from the tape and GRADUALLY move it to the tape. Have the tape on a flat surface and rotate the tape while moving (slowly) the demag so that it covers the full surface of the tape. After a few revolutions GRADUALLY pull the demag an arm's length away and THEN turn it off. This should erase the tape without leaving residual "stuff" on the tape. Give it a shot that way and let us know how it works.
