Hey, I hope I'm allowed to do this. I'm posting a clip of a tune from an album I've been listening to for ages. It's strictly for educational purposes.
I wan to know how people think this was recorded. I'm trying to mix one of my songs that only has guitar bass and drums. When I pan stuff, it sounds too un-balanced. When I don't pan, it sounds too centred obviously.
The tune I'm posting is also just a 3-piece band, but it sounds full. You still hear stuff panned, but everything still sounds centred at the same time.
I realize that most of the vibe is the fact that they're playing live in the same room, which I can't capture when I record everything myself. But I'd still like some insight on what they might have done to fill up the stereo spectrum without tilting the mix at all.
Discuss.
(I had to render the file at 128kps for it to be small enough to upload)
