Do you have a monitor button? If so turn off monitoring.

Using a Tascam
ummmm do you mean the playback without the mic you were just singing thru?
Turn off the mic.
Do you mean without the monitor speakers?
Turn off the monitors.
I'm not familiar with that unit but basically turn off what you don't want to be hearing.
If that means having to reach over and turn off a power amp to your monitors then that's what you have to do.

I think he wants to hear the instrument tracks or whatever that are allready recorded and record the mic but not hear the mic.

I thought the Tascam was gonna be a stand alone unit. The software you are using probably has a monitor button on the track you are recording. Turn that off.

What software are you using?

FL Studio. I finally got it to record which I was so happy about :) I don't have monitors I am just running the sound through my headphones for when I record. Even when I sit there with the headphones I just hear the static from the mic. I'll look around in FL. I thought maybe it was a Tascam thing because I don't know what the top left knob does...sorry I am really knew to recording and this is my first setup.

well ..... let's say there isn't any switch on your recorder to mute the mic ....... you can always still turn the mic off if it's a condensor by turning off the phantom power.
If it's not a condensor and doesn't have a switch then you could unplug it.

IF it turns out the only way to turn it off is unplug it, that'll get to be a pain in the butt so then you could get a mic cord that has a switch built into it.

Yeah I got it working now! Thanks everyone. Something is weird with this thing. It was the MONO switch, but I had it on and off yesterday and could still hear the mic. Very strange. I think there was a switch in FL that played a roll too.
