One thing to check is your subwoofer in the studio. Probably you are using a 12" or 15" cabinet in your bass amp, but your studio monitors are 8"? 8" speakers do not reproduce below 50 Hz too well. So it might be in your mix, but you can't accurately hear it.
I'm building a 10" sub monitor to complement my 6.5" monitors.
i tried micing and going direct to get that rumble. I'm not stressing it. i'm trying to make a hiphop cd with no synth and basically guitar, bass and drums. i'll mess with that on another project.
have you thought about recordinga synth to double the electric bass. just a thought. I guess if you are trying to not use any you will shoot that idea down but sometimes its hard to tell that the snth bass is there.
