How do you isolate computer noise?

I am curious how some of you experienced folks deal with computer noise in recording. I am using Delta 66 card and a Mackie mixer.

1. Are you concerned about it at all, when recording quiet vocals? I see on my recoding SW, the meters dancing around like crazy when mics are idle but I do not hear anything much if I monitor using headphones!

2.If so what precatuin or prevention do you take? For instance,
- Do you keep computer, mixer etc in a different room and place mics in a second room? In my situation, if I did this, because of the limitation on wire length of headphone, which I use to monitor sound, I will have to keep the mixer about 8-10 ft away from the PC. Then in that case do you worry about length of cables?
- Do you have some other way to shield PC from noise like a heavy cloth hanging around it or somer other cluge?

Thanks much.

I dont record on mics in the room with the computer. It's a pain to hit record and walk into the next room but the absolute silence in the background is well worth it.

I drape an unzipped sleeping bag over my computer, not covering the back, which usually allows enough airflow to keep the computer cool. I wouldn't recommend doing that for hours on end, but I think for a typical session, it doesn't hurt my computer. Someday, I'm going to buy some fans from these guys:

This subject has surfaced in the "Studio Design" forum here. There are 2 or 3 threads dealing with DIY isolation cabinets..........just do a search on "computer isolation" or somesuch thing.
